Dear Members of the Selection Committee,
I am a second-year Language Sciences student at Université Côte d’Azur. Since childhood, I have been fascinated by how languages evolve and shape our world, which led me to specialize in Linguistics. I am applying for the Erasmus+ program because I believe linguistics cannot be fully understood in a vacuum; becoming a well-rounded linguist requires exposure to diverse academic perspectives. Choosing Northumbria University is a deliberate decision based on its excellence in English linguistics. While my current studies focus on French, I am eager to apply my analytical skills to the English language within a British context to broaden my scientific horizon.
The modules at Northumbria, particularly "The Sounds and Structure of English," align perfectly with my interests. Confronting myself to a system tht is different in all points (phonological, syntactical, etc.) will provide a vital comparative perspective to my studies. Personally, this exchange is a challenge to step out of my comfort zone, adapt to a new pedagogical system, and gain independence abroad. Beyond academics, I am excited about the cultural immersion Newcastle offers. Studying abroad is a unique opportunity to engage with a diverse student body and understand the nuances of British culture firsthand, helping me develop the global mindset essential in today’s interconnected world.
My long-term ambition is to pursue a Master’s in Natural Language Processing (NLP), specializing in Multilingual Engineering. This field demands a profound understanding of how different languages function. A semester at Northumbria will provide the linguistic depth and the "international edge" required to work in global tech companies or research labs. I am a dedicated and analytical student, adaptable and ready to integrate into the Northumbria community. In summary, this mobility is the bridge between my studies in Nice and my future career. It merges my interest in phonology and structure with my goal of becoming a multilingual engineer. I am confident this experience will be mutually beneficial and will allow me to bring a wealth of knowledge back to my home university.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
