Hello everybody,
I've juste come back from the movies where I saw the film "Riddick", the second chapter of "Pitchblack". For those who like the Fantastic cinema, and who saw Pitchblack I advise to go and see it, it was great.
Now here is my question : I'd like to understand what "Pitchblack" means. Could you all give me your point of view ?
Thanks in advance,
Kayrol

J'ai trouvé PITCH-BLACK= noir comme de la suie.
Maintenant PITCH a plusieurs sens différents, alors est-ce que ça veut dire autre chose?

I believe that pitch-black means "terrain de sport sombre". Because, on the planet, there is a match sport between humans and monsters and the action took place during the night.
I love special effects movies and I saw it : it was very incredible. I also saw Hellboy (Greatfull film), and Spiderman 2 (Excellent).
I enjoy U to see them ...

pitch-black adjective = tout noir; [night] d'un noir d'encre.

Thanks to all for your answers. I think you're right in your translations Bridg & Rosminet, the word "pitch" would be here to put the emphasis on "black". This seems logical to me when related to the hero of this film who can see perfectly in the complete dark night (I mean "obscurité totale "?).
Thanks again,
Kayrol

Slang : to be pitch black: very dark. When the lights went out, the office was pitch black.
